Cape Breton Regional Police are warning the public to be on the lookout for counterfeit money after arresting a man trying to pass phony bills at a Sydney bank Thursday.
"This may be an isolated circumstance, but the public should be aware that from time to time counterfeit money will show up in our area," Staff Sgt. Ken O’Neill said in a news release.
Police were called to a Charlotte Street bank at about noon after bank employees became concerned about the money.
Officers say they arrested a 22-year-old man and seized almost $2,000 in 100-, 50-, 20-, 10- and five-dollar bills.
The suspect had been recently released from a federal prison and was staying at a local halfway house.
The investigation continues.<< Back to blog list
